Time course of polarization observed with OPN demonstrating the cyclic operation of the UCPU. The maximum polarization of ≈ 52% is reached seven times in sequence. The sharp peaks are artefacts that result from changes in discharge color and brightness when polarized gas is transferred into the compression volume or when non-polarized gas is filled into the optical pumping volume.
