Finite element simulation of a conventional notch flexure with a notch radius of 3 mm and a flat flexure with a length of 3.25 mm. Both have a width of 10 mm and a minimal notch thickness of 0.05 mm. Boundary conditions: Each flexure is fixed supported at the left end and a rotation of \(7\,{}^{\circ}\) is induced at the nodes at the right end. A point mass of 15 kg, which mimics the weight of the balance components, is attached on the right end. The color bars show the results for the maximum equivalent stress in the geometry after deflection in MPa. In the flat flexure the high stress concentration is close to the right edge of the flat region
